This was my first time attending Cars and Coffee and it couldn't have been a better show! I was shooting with my D7000 and my new 35mm f/1.8 lens. It was my first time shooting with the new lens, so not all the pictures turned out perfectly, but overall I'm pretty happy. I know there are a bunch of Opponauts who are great at photography, so I'm open to criticisms and helpful tips. Anyways, enjoy!

This E28 535i was actually for sale. $3,500. I was veerrrry tempted to pick it up, but it would have been too much of a project for me right now.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

VELOCITY STACKS.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This Focus actually belongs to the guy who sold me my Baja Bug.

Kinja'd!!!

Yep, it's turbo'd. He and his dad actually built this turbo set up in their garage.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Here come the Porsches. K-Roll, try keep your pants on. If you can't we don't blame you.

Kinja'd!!!

Mmmmmm Targa.

Kinja'd!!!

This guy was leaving just as I walked over the the Porsche group of the show. I really wanted more pictures of his car, but this is all I could get!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This may have been the most beautiful Porsche I've seen in my life .

Kinja'd!!!

Dat ass.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

All the wannabe drift missile S14 bros were gathered around this Carrera GT and they wouldn't SHUTUP about how Paul Walker died in one of these.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This 280 was just one of only two Datsuns at the show.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The second Datsun at the show. It's a '72 240. I met the owner a few days before the show when he actually drove the car up to where I work. He's nice as can be and loves to talk about his car.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I really like this picture. I've always been a fan of the gauge and dash layouts on old Jags.

Kinja'd!!!

I really wish this Jag's hood wasn't propped open. It was a stunning car.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This Merc would have been a lot cooler if the tires weren't stretched.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

An i3! I didn't think I'd see one in person this soon. They're funky little cars.

Kinja'd!!!

M4. Another car I didn't think I would see so soon. BMW really nailed it with the design of this car.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This Triumph was balls crazy. I wish I could have gotten better and more pictures of it, but needless to say, there was a huge crowd around it.

Kinja'd!!!

Yep, that's a V8 up front.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This Hummer was HUGE. Couldn't fit it all in the picture. Seriously. I tried.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I was just walking to my car when this Bentley roared into the lot. This picture is all wonky looking cause I was facing the sun and he was moving...fast.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

That's all! Hopefully you guys liked looking at my pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Since when do people around here own cool cars?! Seriously, I thought everyone in St. Louis drove a Camry or 3-series depending on their income lever! I never see and cool/interesting cars.

..What kind of condition was that 535i in? Because knock $500 off and that's in my price range.

Every car there was a garage queen. That's why you never see them!

The E28 was rough around the edges. The guy who owns it now basically rescued it from a lazy owner and got it mechanically sound. The radio and rear defroster don't work, paint has clear coat peel like most old unmaintained bimmers.

There were a few other things but I can't remember off the top of my head. If you've got time time and inclination, it could definitely be a good car.

If it's mechanically sound, I could deal with the other things later.

THE TEMPTATION.

That Triumph is mental. Must be an utter pig to drive round anything resembling a corner (although perhaps not as bad as I thought, you could perhaps offset 80% of the weight gain with lightweight bits/relocation of the battery).

Must go like an utter missile in a straight line though. Even if it's only a 350bhp LS1 with no other lightweight parts that makes a power-to-weight of 387bhp/ton.

If it's a lighter and more powerful LS3, that bumps up to 488bhp/ton. If that's the case, he should be able to show a McLaren MP4-12C a clean pair of heels if he can get it hooked up.

Thanks for sharing! If you're looking for photo tips . . .

I assume you're shooting JPG, not RAW? If so, play around with the settings in your camera for how it processes jpgs. I might try bumping the contrast and saturation up, as a lot of these look a little hazy to me. It's all to taste though, so play around with the in-camera settings until it's giving you the results you like.

Eventually you might want to start shooting RAW and look into editing those, possibly with whatever software your Nikon came with.

Have fun with that 35mm 1.8 though! Stick it in the engine bays and get in close for detail shots. If you set your aperture to a low number (maybe f/2 or a little higher), you'll start getting some really nice shallow depth of field, which is especially great on those close ups. For instance, your velocity stack shot is cool so keep trying out that stuff. You can really have fun with all the variety of details on the different types of cars that show up. Keep shooting!

I totally missed out on this. Oh well. After a week of a 1.5 hour commute last week I was due to sleep in till 7 instead of up at 4. Chilled with my family then went to visit a cousin in from Texas. Might be there next month, might.

Always looking for tips, thanks for the help!

As I said, it was my first time shooting with that lens and I was playing around with a bunch of settings, so not everything turned out how I imagined haha

But ya, I'm shooting JPG right now. I haven't ventured to RAW yet. I need to get some good photo editing software soon to make pics a little better. What do you recommend?

I use Lightroom for everything. Well, sometimes I'll go from Lightroom to Photoshop to finish something out, or if I need to stitch panoramas. But mostly everything is done in Lr. It's great for importing, keeping everything organized, and editing. You can really do some amazing things with RAW files. It takes a little while to get used to, but you can find helpful videos on setting up a workflow, or figuring out what each control does. It's a great program.

I'm looking forward to our C&C next Saturday. Should be fun!
